It was a red and blue weekend as D.C. Rebels gathered in the nation’s capital to share their love for Ole Miss.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better turnout for all of the events held in D.C.,” said Scott Thompson (BA 97, MA 08), OMAA associate director for engagement. “Our D.C. Rebels are proud of their alma mater and always show up big. Particularly at Mississippi on the Mall, where Ole Miss has the largest representation of all of the state’s universities by far.”
The weekend started early with the annual D.C Ole Miss Club meeting hosted by BGR group on Thursday, June 9. Rebels packed the lobby of the Homer Building to hear UM Chancellor Glenn Boyce (BAEd 81, EdD 96), alumnus Haley Barbour (JD 73), founding partner of BGR Group, and others.
Honors College alumni were invited to join Dr. Ethel Young Scurlock, interim dean of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honor College, Vivian Ibrahim (15), director of the Office of National Scholarship Advisement and Croft associate professor of history and international studies, and more for brunch at The Loft on Friday, June 10.

The weekend’s festivities wrapped up on Saturday with the Mississippi Society’s annual Mississippi on the Mall held at Henry Bacon Ball Field.
“Our alumni are passionate about all things Ole Miss, and our D.C. Rebels are no exception,” said OMAA CEO Kirk Purdom (BA 93). “They always bring so much energy and enthusiasm, and can’t wait for us to come back the following year.”
