Information Provided by UM Department of Parking and Transportation
The parking garage will be located where the northernmost football practice field currently sits, on the west side of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. The arena will take the place of the West Stadium Parking Lot and the Rebel Shop. Parking and driving near the construction zone of both of these sites will have to be adjusted over the next two years. In fact, during both phases of construction, about 575 parking spots will be unavailable to the campus community. However, additional spots are available to replace this parking in more remote lots. During construction, please allow extra time for parking and plan ahead when accessing this area of campus.
Phase I (December 2013 – March 2014)
During Phase I of construction, which lasts until March 2014, between 25-35 parking spots in the west stadium lot will be fenced off due to construction. (The total number depends upon where the construction fences are placed.) The entrance to the West Stadium Parking Lot from Hill Drive will be blocked for construction vehicles, but the lot will still be accessible from All-American Drive. In addition, the three parking lots bordering Hill Drive (behind the Turner Center and located between the football practice fields and the Turner Center tennis courts) will be closed for the duration of construction on both projects.
Phase II (March 2014 – January 2016)
During Phase II of construction, which lasts no later than January 2016, the remaining parking spots in the West Stadium Parking Lot (approximately 280 spaces total) will be unavailable for parking. A portion of Hill Drive, including the intersection of All-American Drive, will be closed. The Turner Center faculty/staff lot, located at the intersection of All-American and Hill drive, will also be affected. Upon completion of Phase I, two commuter lots located adjacent to Tad Smith Coliseum will be re-designated as faculty/staff lots. More information about Phase II will be provided by the UM Department of Parking and Transportation around March.
