Presidential Debate Rentals Needed
The Lafayette-Oxford-University community is preparing to host more than 3,000 journalists for the presidential debate on September 26, Due to the lack of local hotel rooms available for this number of visitors, the people of Oxford are asked to open up their homes and private residences to the visiting journalists. Thomas Meredith Honored as Education Alumnus of the Year
The University of Mississippi School of Education has named Thomas C. Meredith, commissioner of higher education for the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning, as its 2008 Alumnus of the Year. Thomas Burnham, dean of the UM education school, presented Meredith with the honor Saturday during a ceremony on the steps of Guyton Hall. Read more.
Residence Halls Get Fire Safety, Security Enhancements
University of Mississippi officials are taking steps to enhance safety across campus, including the addition of a new television channel to notify students in an emergency, installation of fire sprinklers in more residence halls and increased use of campus safety officers. Read more.
