Inn at Ole Miss Expansion Commences

The Ole Miss Alumni Association and The Inn at Ole Miss campaign reached a pinnacle on September 2, with a groundbreaking ceremony marking the beginning of phase one of construction.

“We were thrilled by the turnout at the groundbreaking ceremony,” said campaign coordinator Tim Walsh. “There was tremendous excitement amongst everyone who attended.”

Walsh said though the groundbreaking is in one way the culmination of a lot of hard work, it is also just the beginning of the project.

Since construction began on September 6, workers have been busy moving former faculty houses, cable and gas lines and water mains as well as clearing land in preparation for the tower construction.

Contractors are also working on a new parking lot located to the east of the current hotel that will add some 50 parking spaces. Once finished, the new parking lot will be opened to hotel guests before the majority of the current parking lot is used for the tower construction.

Currently at $12.3 million in gifts and pledges, the campaign committee is still working hard to obtain additional gifts and sponsorships. Up to 20 rooms in the original section of the current Inn are available for sponsorship.  The tax deductible
contribution required to sponsor a room is $55,000 if paid over 5 years, and $50,000 if paid within 12 months of signing the pledge card.

Completion of The Inn at Ole Miss expansion and renovation is set for January 2008. Ole Miss alumni and friends can check the status of the project at anytime through the construction live web cam at http://www.olemiss.edu/livecam/alumni/.

Walsh said the campaign committee is grateful for the generosity of its alumni and friends, but is still in need of additional gifts in order to complete the expansion and renovation.
