Mississippi Federal Credit Union Expands

A new benefit to dues paying members of the Ole Miss Alumni Association is the opportunity to join the Mississippi Federal Credit Union. An original idea submitted to the Alumni Office by Clarence Milstead (BBA ’59), an active member of the Alumni Association, took only a few months to become a reality. As an employee of Little Rock Air Force Base, Milstead reaped the benefits of credit union membership for 27 years.

“A credit union membership is a good way to save money, and a good way to get loans,” stated Milstead.

Upon retirement, however, Milstead returned to Oxford to discover that he was not eligible for membership into any local credit unions. He then called upon the Ole Miss Alumni Association, which set the wheels in motion. After consideration and analysis, it became clear that credit union membership should be made available to active Alumni Association members. With branches located in Jackson and Oxford, Mississippi Federal Credit Union membership presents numerous advantages.

According to Onice Carter, branch manager in Oxford, “The Mississippi Federal Credit Union offers checking accounts, money orders, CD’s, and shares accounts, often referred to as savings accounts. Mississippi Federal Credit Union offers competitive loan rates as well.”

Also important is that the Mississippi Federal Credit Union offers ATM banking, with three machines located on the Oxford campus and four located in Jackson, including The University of Mississippi Medical Center. Membership dues include a $25 shares account deposit and a $1 membership fee. If members choose to close their Mississippi Federal Credit Union account, the $25 share deposit will be refunded. Ole Miss Alumni Association active members interested in joining may call 1-800-643-1567 to speak with a representative in Jackson, or 662-915-7661 for an Oxford agent.
