OLE MISS JAZZ CHANGES.....YEAR 2000

John McCauley retires after 25 years as Director of THE MISSISSIPPIANS and Jazz Studies. Milton Aldana, Ole Miss Trombone Studio and Director of THE COLLEGIANS resigns to pursue additional education options. These two gentlemen will truly be missed. The future evolves. These two "openings" were combined into one position for Assistant Professor of
Trombone/Jazz encompassing Low Brass and THE MISSISSIPPIANS.

The Search Committee selected Donn Schaefer as the person for this position.

Donn Schaefer has served as Instructor of Music at Middle Tennessee State University for two years. He holds the BS degree in Instrumental Music Education from Bemidji State University, MN; the MM in Trombone Performance from the University of Massachussetts at Amherst; is ABD toward the DMA degree at the University of Iowa. Originally from Vancouver, Canada,
Mr. Schaefer has a strong record of performance in classical, jazz and commercial musical venues. Additionally, he is very active in work with public school instrumental programs. He directed the jazz ensemble and jazz combo at Grinnell College. He has been a member of the Middle Tennessee Jazz Orchestra (playing Drumset). He considers recruiting as a strength. In 2000, he received the Outstanding Teacher Award given by the Tennessee Governor's School for the Arts. His Ole Miss duties begin
with the Fall Semester of 2000.
